Katie Nelson
Katharine Nelson is an activist, scholar and researcher. She works with the DC Anti-War Network and serves on the Steering Committee of United for Peace and Justice. She received her BA in economics and international studies cum laude from Macalester College in 2001, where she participated as a primary speaker at the International Roundtable on globalization and feminism. She has since worked as a development assistant for the Appleseed Foundation, working in grassroots communities across the country for social justice through legal means, and has lived and traveled extensively in South East Asia. She currently works as a research associate at the National Center for Economic and Security Alternatives where she was a contributing author to a recent book Building Wealth: The New Asset-Based Approach to Solving Social and Economic Problems and helped research Gar Alperovitz’s America Beyond Capitalism: Reclaiming Our Wealth, Our Liberty and Our Democracy. She has also served as a faculty assistant in the Government and Politics Department at the University of Maryland, College Park.
