DC Media Collective

Since first forming during the mobilization against George Bush’s second inauguration, the Collective has promoted a professional public face for various grassroots organizations, enabling them to disseminate clear and media-friendly political messaging.

The Collective has coordinated media outreach during large popular mobilizations, when it shifts focus from any particular group’s needs to the messaging of the mobilization as a whole.

As a natural complement to the Collective’s work on behalf of specific grassroots groups, the Collective has built capacity throughout the progressive movement by providing free training to groups seeking media skills. Workshops available to the community include sessions focusing on framing and articulating effective messaging, organizing a press-focused event, and planning an effective media campaign.
